Sephora's Jill Powell shares the latest color cosmetic trends for the season.
May 29, 2012

This spring we are seeing bright bold color painting the streets in both fashion and makeup trends. Pantone announced that the color of the year is Tangerine Tango – a bright fiery orange that evokes emotions of happiness and excitement – and it is truly the biggest color for Spring 2012! To celebrate the color of the year, Sephora and Pantone have partnered to create the first ever color of the year beauty collection which features a variety of high-performance, luxury color cosmetics and beauty accessories in this on-trend color.Whether it's a swipe of the Sephora + Pantone Universe Color of the Year Crème Lipstick ($18; Sephora) on the lips, a flush of the Sephora + Pantone Universe Color of the Year Blush Duo ($26; Sephora), or a curl of the lashes with the Sephora + Pantone Universe Tangerine Tango Eyelash Curler ($18; Sephora), you will be sure to be donning the hottest color of the season. A huge trend, and a fantastic way to incorporate the color of the year into your makeup, is a bright, bold lip. A super-saturated lip is the easiest way to update your look for spring – it's daring, confident and feminine. Whether it's a bright pink like the Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Love Lipstick in Backstage Bambi ($19; Sephora) or a purple like the Hello Kitty Apple Balm in Violet ($10; Sephora), you'll be sure to enhance in your spring style. Eyes this season are defined with black liner to create luscious lashes.Rather than applying liner on top of your lashline as we traditionally see, liner is applied at the roots of the lashes creating the illusion of full thick lashes. To achieve this, use a rich black pencil or cream liner like the Tarina Tarantino Eye Dream Hyperliner in Tommy Jet ($15; Sephora) to color in the roots of your lash line in between each lash on both top and bottom.Be sure to line the waterline, or inner membrane on the bottom with your waterproof black pencil.Complete your look by curling your lashes and applying two coats of a volumizing mascara like the new Sephora Outrageous Volume Mascara ($15; Sephora). When wearing bold colors or creating strong, graphic lines with your beauty look, it should always be paired with youthful, radiant and glowing skin. Be sure to use moisturizer day and night to help quench your skin and eliminate texture. For that lit from within glow, mix in a few drops of luminizer with your foundation. This will give the illusion of Radiant skin without being overpowering.Highlighting your skin with gold toned luminizers will give a healthy glow and compliment the warm tones of the season. Burnished bronze skin also gives you a healthy sun kissed glow this Spring. Dust a shimmery bronzer along the cheeks, forehead and décolleté to bring life to your everyday look. We love to use the Tarina Tarantino Sparklicity Bronze Shimmer Dust ($39; Sephora) which can be used to add a bronzed shimmer all over body and hair.
